The event, which is sponsored by Pickering Electronics Ltd, sees supporters take on 7 or 14 miles between Clacton and Walton piers to raise money for the local charity, which helps local people face incurable illness and bereavement.
Lene Johnson has been taking part in Pier to Pier since 2016 and each year the family walk in memory of Lene’s daughter Marie who was supported by St Helena’s hospice in the home team before she died at the hospice on Valentine’s Day 2016, age 26.
Ahead of this year’s walk Lene said: “These boots are made for walking’ and after months and months of restrictions and separation due to the pandemic we are back together to make a difference.
“The last six years have been the toughest times of my life but being involved with raising funds for St Helena has given me a purpose, a sense of belonging and, in a way, a focus to help make a difference, not only for today but also for the future of people needing the exceptional service and care that St Helena offers.
“If you feel it, it’s real! And I will forever remember just how supported, respected and safe we felt when we needed St Helena Hospice the most.”
Participants of the charity walk will have the opportunity to leave a message to remember a loved one on a display board at both Clacton and Walton piers. The event is suitable for all ages and abilities, and well behaved dogs on leads are welcome too!
