Comic Hero Run is back for 2022 and is set to be better than ever!

Enjoy an action-packed day on Sunday 16th October for all the family to enjoy at Colchester’s historic Castle Park where you can take part in one of our 1km, 5km or 10km races. Are you ready to rise to the challenge and raise money for your local hospice at the same time?!

No matter your age or fitness level, everyone is encouraged to get involved...after all, it's taking part that counts right?! Why not get into the fun run spirit and also dress up as your favourite comic hero to show your support and creativity?

Each participant taking part in Comic Hero is encouraged to raise £35 in sponsorship which will help us provide care and support to local people facing incurable illness and bereavement across north east Essex. 

Terms and Conditions

General
a. These booking terms and conditions apply to everyone who takes part in St Helena Hospice Comic Hero Fun Run 2022 and those who attend as spectators.

b. These terms and conditions contain important information regarding participation and upon entry you agree to, and accept these terms and conditions.

c. Places are limited in the Comic Hero Fun Run event and entries are processed in the order we receive them. The closing date for entries is Wednesday 12th October 2022 at 12pm. All participants wishing to take part after this time will need to sign up and pay on the day of the event.

d. Anyone under the age of 18 confirms that they have sought parent/guardian consent to take part in the event.

e. Anyone under 16 years must be accompanied at the event by a responsible adult.

f. Anyone aged 12 years and under can only take part in the run alongside a participating adult.

g. All participants taking part in the Comic Hero Fun Run do so at their own risk. In no event shall St Helena Hospice be liable for any injuries, loss or damages whatsoever, including indirect, punitive, special, incidental or consequential losses connected with any aspect of this event.

h. All participants are responsible for their own medical condition/s. Should you have a medical condition or if you are in any doubt about your ability to participate and finish the Comic Hero Fun Run, we advise you to seek medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.

i. Photographs and videos will be taken of participants throughout the event, these will be used on promotional materials to publicise the event and the work of the charity generally. It is the participant’s responsibility to let staff know at registration if you do not want to appear in any such materials.

j. No dogs are permitted within Colchester Castle Park where the Comic Hero Fun Run takes place, therefore please ask any spectators supporting you at the event to leave them at home. Anyone arriving at the event with dogs will be asked to leave the premises.
Booking process, prices and payment
a. The entry fee is non-refundable and non-transferable

b. Participants are charged the following
 10K – Adults only (16yrs and over) £20.00
 5K – Adults (16yrs and over) £15.00, Childrens (5 – 15yrs) £10.00
 1K - £5.00 per person (all ages)
 Family rate (2 adults & 2 children OR 1 adult & 3 children) £45.00
 Under 5yrs - Free

c. Prices on the day are per person and there no family rate is available. - £25 per person to cover registration and sponsorship.

d. The Comic Hero Fun Run event is a St Helena Hospice event to raise money for St Helena Hospice. We ask that all sponsorship raised is for St Helena Hospice, please do not raise money for other charities, trusts or funds.

e. Any carer taking part to accompany a participant is required to register and pay in the same way as any other participant in order to be covered under St Helena Hospice event insurance.

f. Minimum sponsorship is suggested at £35 per person.

g. All funds raised from taking part in this event, including sponsorship will be allocated to general hospice funds to cover all hospice services.

h. Medals are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed for people registering on the day.

i. You will be required to enter a discount coupon code at the checkout in order to receive the 10% family rate discount.
Safety
a. The 10K run is open to adults only (16 years and over) due to health and safety reasons.

b. Children aged 12 years and under must take part alongside a paying adult and be accompanied at all times throughout the event. Anyone under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult while attending the event.
Anyone under the age of 18 confirms that they have sought parent/guardian consent to take part in the Comic Hero Fun Run. School and youth groups taking part must have adequate supervision.

c. Disabled entrants are welcome to take part. However due to the nature of the event, the location and some uneven terrain throughout the grounds of Castle Park and surrounding areas that the routes cover, it may be difficult in some circumstances. Please contact the Hospice prior to booking to establish whether the event is suitable for you. (please refer to section 2e for information on carers participating).

d. The 10K and the 5K routes are considered suitable for wheelchair users. The 1K route takes place on footpaths mostly except for the last section where there is a steep grass hill.

e. On no account is alcohol to be brought into the event site or consumed during the event. St Helena Hospice reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone under the influence of alcohol.
Clothing
a. Due to the theme of the Comic Fun Run, all participants are encouraged to dress up in their favourite comic or super hero costume. St Helena Hospice is not responsible for supplying costumes to participants, nor for any damage, wear or tear to such items.

b. It is not compulsory to wear such costumes to take part in the Comic Hero Fun Run.

c. There will be no changing or bag drop facilities at the event, other than public toilets, so you bring items along at your own risk.
Changes to the event
a. St Helena Hospice cannot be held liable for any changes made to the event for safety reasons, or as otherwise planned through circumstances beyond their control. Nor can they accept any liability for any changes made to the venue or date of the event.

b. St Helena Hospice reserves the right to alter the start time of the event at any time.
Cancellations
a. St Helena Hospice reserves the right to cancel this event at any time. In the event of this happening, entry fees and sponsorship will be refunded in full.
Data protection
a. The information you provide at registration will be shared only with St Helena Hospice, it will not be passed onto any other organisation.

b. By taking part in the Comic Hero Fun Run event you consent to St Helena Hospice contacting you via telephone, letter or email for any matter relating to your participation in this event.
Disclaimer
a. All participants taking part in Comic Hero Fun Run event do so at their own risk. In no event shall St Helena Hospice or Castle Park, Colchester be liable for any injuries, loss or damages whatsoever.

b. Children aged 5 years and under are free to take part and will not be registered. They must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult or carer.
Conditions of entry
I have read and agree to the terms and conditions above. I/the group understand that I/we take part in this event at my/our own risk and that St Helena Hospice will not be liable for any injury or loss that may occur as a result of my/our participation. I confirm that I am/we are over 18 years of age and that my/our parent/guardian has advised St Helena if I am/we are not. I agree that medical advice should be sought from a General Practitioner if I am/we are in any doubt as to my/our physical ability to participate in the event. I am/we are aware that photographs and videos taken during the event may be used to publicise the event and the work of the charity generally and give permission for this.

Q - What is Comic Hero Run?
The Comic Hero Fun Run is a family friendly event consisting of three routes – 10K; 5K and 1K. The 10K run consists of two laps of the 5K route. The fun run takes place in Castle Park, Colchester. Participants of all ages are able to participate.

Q - How much sponsorship money do I have to raise?
Sponsorship of £35 per person is suggested.
Q - How do I receive the 10% discount when purchasing a family ticket?
You will be required to enter a discount coupon code at the checkout in order to receive the 10% family rate discount.
Q – Do I have to dress up?
It is not obligatory to dress up however the majority of runners do don their favourite super hero costume.
Q – Do I receive a medal?
Yes everyone that has signed up, paid a registration fee and completed their chosen distance will receive a medal over the finishing line.
Q – Are refreshments available on the day?
Yes – refreshments are available at the café in the park.
Q- Are toilets open in Castle Park on the day?
Yes – toilets are available in the park.
Q – Can I pay on the day?
Yes – Prices are £25 per person to cover registration and sponsorship (5yrs and over).
Q- Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, you cannot bring your dog to this event as they are not allowed in Upper Castle Park.
Q – Are the routes suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs?
Most of the routes are on paths except the last section of the 1K where it has a grassed steep hill.
