(QA) Dedicate a daisy

Share

Information

Dedicate a daisy to remember and celebrate your loved one this summer.

We invite you to dedicate a daisy to your loved one.

By dedicating a daisy, you will be giving other families the opportunity to tell their loved one they love them; to reminisce and talk about their favourite memories; and have final conversations they will cherish forever.

Dedicating a daisy is simple. Make your donation using the button above and ensure you fill out the name of your loved one you’re remembering. We will write the name of your loved one on your daisy and plant it in the hospice garden, where it will remain on display for you to visit between Sunday 14th and Sunday 4th September 2022.

We will be holding a garden party at the Hospice on Sunday 14th August where all of your daisies will be displayed and we invite you to come along and join us for some tea, cake, and celebrations of those we miss and love. You'll be able to RSVP to the garden party when you dedicate your daisy.

Terms and Conditions/FAQs

T&Cs and FAQs are usually entered here. I've just put Firewalk FAQs here because it was quicker

What is Firewalk event?
The participants will undergo training of around one hour. When the fire has burned to red-hot embers it is raked level and prepared for the walk. Participants go to the fire – remove their footwear and one by one are invited to walk the coals.

The event has been sponsored by Nested Estate Agents.

When is it?
Thursday 10th November 2022.
Where is it?
Orpen Memorial Hall, Lexden Road, West Bergholt, Colchester, Essex, CO6 3BG
What time does it start?
7.00pm Walker Registration
7.30pm Firewalk Training
8.30pm Firewalk
9.00 to 9.15pm  Firewalk ends

How much is it to register?
Registration is £25.00.
How much sponsorship do I have to raise?
Minimum sponsorship is £150.00. Our fundraising team can offer advice, tips and support to help you meet your target - why not request a fundraising pack, and you can also find an A-Z of fundraising ideas and downloadable resources to help you with your fundraising on our website
Will it hurt?
The sensation is described by some as walking on eggshells, others as walking on hot sand. Each walker has his or her own experience. UK Firewalk have not known walkers to experience pain, indeed when the opportunity arises many will walk across the coals more than once.
Is the fire real?
The fire is very real. The embers will be glowing red-hot – we can often measure the temperature at around 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.
Is it safe?
There is an inherent risk in any activity involving fire. It is important that participants pay attention to all the training and heed the advice and instruction of the trainer, firewatchers and spotters.
How should I prepare?
There is no preparation to undertake. No treatment of the feet or mental exercise, just the training provided at the seminar. You should abstain from the consumption of alcohol or drugs prior to the event. Any person who is in the opinion of the trainer unfit to participate will NOT be permitted to take part.  Feet should be clean and free from any massage or pedicure oils.
What should I wear?
There is no special clothing required. Casual comfortable clothes are best. Please remember fires can be quite dirty and clothes may become ash stained. Footwear needs to be easy to remove and will need to be replaced before going back indoors so a hand towel might be a good idea. Flip flops are a good idea, especially if the ground is cold. Nail varnish and toe rings are fine.
Is there toilets on site?
Yes, toilets are available to use inside Orpen Memorial Hall
Finally, all walkers should adhere to the following:
Walkers must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
All walkers should be well hydrated (drink plenty of water).
Please ensure your feet are clean and free from massage and pedicure oils.
No one is forced to walk on fire and we will not allow peer pressure.
